COMSATS GPA Calculator
Calculate your COMSATS University Islamabad semester GPA and CGPA with COMSATS' own absolute grading scale — not Punjab University's, and not a generic 4.0 scale.
The difference matters. At COMSATS, 71% is a B and 68% is a B-. At PU, those same marks fall in different bands, so a generic calculator — or one built for another university — gives you the wrong GPA even when you enter the right marks. Enter each course with its credit hours and either your marks or your letter grade; marks are rounded to the nearest whole number first, the way COMSATS rounds them. This scale applies to students admitted from Fall 2021 onwards. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved anywhere.

COMSATS grading scale used here
The maximum GPA or CGPA at COMSATS is 4.00, and anything below 50% is an F worth 0.00.
COMSATS rounds to the nearest whole number — not always up
Before your grade is looked up, your percentage is rounded to the nearest whole number: a tenths digit of 5 or above rounds up, below 5 rounds down. So 70.5 becomes 71, which is a B (3.00), while 70.4 stays 70, a B- (2.66). That half-mark is worth 0.34 grade points on that course — and it works in both directions, unlike PU's rule where any fraction counts as a full mark. This calculator applies the nearest rule and shows you the rounded mark next to your grade.
How to use this calculator
Choose Semester GPA if you want one semester, or CGPA if you want your overall result so far. For a semester, add one row per course, type its credit hours, then enter your marks — the calculator rounds them to the nearest whole number and finds your letter grade and grade point from COMSATS' scale — or pick your letter grade directly if you already know it. For CGPA, add one row per completed semester (its GPA and credit hours), or use the quick option with your previous CGPA.
Why this is not the same as PU's calculator
Same mark, different grade — this is the reason COMSATS students need their own page:
A student who runs COMSATS marks through a PU calculator — or a generic one — gets a flattering, wrong answer.
How COMSATS calculates GPA
For each course, multiply the grade point by the course's credit hours. That gives the course's quality points. Quality points = Grade point × Credit hours, and Semester GPA (SGPA) = Total quality points of the semester ÷ Total credit hours of the semester.
Total: 15 credit hours, 50.63 quality points. Semester GPA = 50.63 ÷ 15 = 3.38. Try it above — enter the same five courses and you will get the same answer.
How COMSATS calculates CGPA
Your CGPA is not a simple average of your semester GPAs. It is the credit-weighted result over every course in your programme: CGPA = Quality points of all courses in the programme ÷ Credit hours of all courses in the programme — the same as weighting each semester's GPA by that semester's credit hours, which is what this calculator's CGPA mode does. Example: a previous CGPA of 3.20 over 30 credit hours, followed by the semester above (50.63 quality points over 15 credits), gives (96.00 + 50.63) ÷ 45 = 3.26. A simple average of 3.20 and 3.38 would give 3.29 — wrong, because the earlier 30 credit hours carry twice the weight of this semester's 15.
What percentage is my CGPA?
COMSATS' own rule is not "CGPA ÷ 4 × 100". Under the grading criteria COMSATS adopted, a CGPA is given the minimum percentage of its grade band: a CGPA of 3.00, for example, corresponds to 71%, because 3.00 is the top of the B band whose percentages start at 71. So a CGPA in the A- band (3.34–3.66) counts as 80%, a B+ band CGPA (3.01–3.33) as 75%, and so on down the table. If a form asks for your percentage, that band minimum is the figure COMSATS' notification prescribes — and your transcript office is the final authority if your campus applies it differently.
Minimum CGPA at COMSATS
The minimum CGPA for an undergraduate degree is commonly 2.00 out of 4.00, and MS programmes require 2.50 — but the exact continuation, probation and graduation rules depend on your programme and admission session, so check your own programme handbook rather than relying on one number for every degree.
Common mistakes COMSATS students make with GPA calculators
Using a PU or generic calculator — the bands at 65–71% are where the two universities diverge most, as the comparison table above shows. Rounding the PU way — at COMSATS, 70.4 does not become 71. Averaging semester GPAs directly instead of weighting by credit hours. Entering an F as if the course doesn't count — an F is 0.00 grade points, but its credit hours still go in the denominator. And counting a withdrawn course — a W does not enter the GPA calculation; check your transcript if you are unsure how it is shown.
This calculator follows the grading criteria COMSATS University Islamabad approved for students admitted from Fall 2021 onwards and is for guidance only. Programmes and campuses can apply additional rules, students admitted earlier were graded under the previous policy, and COMSATS can revise its regulations. Your official transcript and your department's examination office are the final authority on your GPA and CGPA. Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my GPA at COMSATS?
For each course, multiply its grade point (from COMSATS' scale) by its credit hours to get quality points. Add all quality points for the semester and divide by the semester's total credit hours. That is your semester GPA (SGPA), out of 4.00.
What is the grading scale at COMSATS?
85-100 is an A (4.00), 80-84 is A- (3.66), 75-79 is B+ (3.33), 71-74 is B (3.00), 68-70 is B- (2.66), 64-67 is C+ (2.33), 61-63 is C (2.00), 58-60 is C- (1.66), 54-57 is D+ (1.30), 50-53 is D (1.00), and below 50 is F (0.00). This is the scale COMSATS' Academic Council approved for students admitted from Fall 2021 onwards (Notification 4304). Some sites list A- as 3.67 — that is the bottom of HEC's A range, not COMSATS' approved A- point of 3.66.
How does COMSATS round marks?
To the nearest whole number, before the grade is looked up: a tenths digit of 5 or above rounds up, below 5 rounds down, so 70.5 becomes 71 (a B) and 70.4 stays 70 (a B-). This is different from PU, where any fraction counts as a full mark.
How is CGPA calculated at COMSATS — is it the average of semester GPAs?
No. CGPA is total quality points divided by total credit hours across the whole programme. Adding up semesters weighted by their credit hours gives the same result; simply averaging semester GPAs does not, unless every semester has identical credit hours.
What is the difference between COMSATS and PU grading?
The bands differ most between 65% and 71%. For example, 65% is a C+ (2.33) at COMSATS but a B- (2.70) at PU, and 64.2% rounds to 64 (C+) at COMSATS but up to 65 (B-) at PU. Running COMSATS marks through a PU calculator gives a wrong, usually higher, GPA.
What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from COMSATS?
Commonly 2.00 out of 4.00 for undergraduate programmes, and 2.50 for MS programmes. Your programme handbook and admission session's regulations are the authority for your degree.
Does an F count in my COMSATS GPA?
Yes. An F earns 0.00 grade points, but the course's credit hours still count in the total. That is why one failed course pulls a semester GPA down sharply.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?
No. This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your marks and grades are not uploaded, stored, or shared.
