About PU's merit formula

Punjab University doesn't use one single formula for every program. The 25/50/25 split above is the most widely cited general formula, but specific departments run their own variations — PUCIT's Computer Science and Software Engineering programs, for example, use their own weighting, and medical programs go through UHS with an MDCAT-based formula instead. Gap-year applicants also see a statutory deduction for each year since their last qualification. If your program isn't a straightforward 25/50/25, adjust the weight fields above to match, or check PU's own admissions page for your department's exact formula.

For the official, current-year formula for your specific department, and PU's own merit calculator, pu.edu.pk is always more current than any third-party estimate, this one included.

Frequently asked questions

What formula does the Punjab University calculator use?

By default it uses the commonly cited general formula: 25% Matric, 50% Intermediate and 25% PU Entry Test. You can edit each weight to match your department.

How do I add Hafiz-e-Quran or other additional marks?

Enter them in the Additional marks box. The page gives +20 for Hafiz-e-Quran as an example, but confirm the exact marks in PU's current admission notice.

Does it work for PUCIT or medical programs?

Not by default. PUCIT's Computer Science and Software Engineering programs use their own weighting, and medical programs go through UHS with an MDCAT-based formula. Adjust the weights for PUCIT, or check the official source for medical.

How do I account for a gap-year deduction?

PU applies a deduction for each year since your last qualification, but this calculator does not apply it automatically. Check PU's notice for the exact amount and enter it as a negative number in the Additional marks box.

Is this the official PU merit calculation?

No. It is an estimate. For the current official formula and your department's exact rules, check pu.edu.pk.
